🕊️ Our Story: Why We Created Legacy of the Longships.

Legacy of the Longships is the charitable arm of Viking Photography—a project born from our personal experiences with grief, disability, chronic illness, and caregiving.

It began with a simple, powerful truth: photography matters most when time feels fragile. We’ve stood alongside families through moments of joy and heartbreak, captured the “last best photo,” and witnessed how a single image can carry a lifetime of love. We know how deeply it matters to be seen, honoured, and remembered.

Legacy of the Longships is our way of giving back—using our craft to create something meaningful and lasting for those who need it most. This isn’t about profit; it’s about people. Inspired by our own journeys and the beautiful couples we’ve supported—traveling to hospitals, hospices, and wherever they need us—this is our legacy to you.

Though we are not yet a registered charity, we’ve completed the paperwork and are awaiting formal approval. Until then, we operate through a dedicated Pay It Forward scheme, supported by the generosity of clients and supporters who believe in our mission.

Every session is offered with heart, dignity, and the understanding that your story matters. You have full control over how your story is shared—if you want us to celebrate and share it widely, we will gladly shout it from the rooftops. If you prefer your story and images to remain private, we will always honour and respect that choice.

If you or someone you love could benefit, please read on and get in touch. We see you. We honour you. And it would be our privilege to tell your story.

With love,
Reagan & Josh

How we can help & who we support:

Legacy of the Longships is here to support individuals and families navigating some of life’s most difficult and vulnerable moments.

We currently offer:

  • Free wedding and portrait sessions for those living with terminal or life-threatening illnesses

  • Free portraits for elderly individuals in care homes or home care settings

  • Free remembrance sessions for people experiencing grief or loss, including bereaved parents and families

  • Heavily discounted wedding photography for couples who have been scammed or let down by their original photographer

This work is funded entirely through our Pay It Forward model, supported by kind clients and donors who believe everyone deserves their story to be told with dignity.

If you're unsure whether your situation qualifies, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We review every request with compassion and understanding — and we're always happy to talk it through with you.

Eligibility & Verification:

To make sure our services go to those who truly need them, we ask for a small amount of information to confirm eligibility. This helps us protect the integrity of the project while keeping things as simple and respectful as possible.

You might be asked to provide:

  • Confirmation of a terminal or life-limiting diagnosis from a healthcare provider

  • Proof of care home or home care setting (for elderly portraits)

  • A short explanation of recent bereavement or significant loss

  • Evidence of being let down by a previous wedding photographer (such as screenshots or communication)

We only ask for what’s absolutely necessary, and there are no hidden costs or obligations for any of our free sessions. We aim to respond to all enquiries within 5 working days.

Data Privacy & Security:

We treat your personal information with the same care we treat your story. Any data you share with us is stored securely on encrypted, cloud-based systems and handled in full compliance with UK GDPR and data protection laws.

We never share or sell your information. It is used only for processing your request, confirming eligibility, and coordinating your session.

If at any point you'd like your data to be deleted, just contact us at legacylongships@gmail.com and we'll do so promptly — no questions asked.

Charity Status:

Legacy of the Longships is a charitable initiative operated as part of Viking Photography, a sole trader business owned by Reagan and Josh. It is not yet a registered charity or a separate legal entity.

We have completed and submitted all necessary paperwork to formalise Legacy of the Longships as an official non-profit and are currently awaiting approval and documentation. Until that process is complete, we operate through a dedicated Pay It Forward model.

All donations go directly toward funding free photography sessions for eligible individuals and families. At this time, donations are not eligible for Gift Aid or tax relief.

We are fully committed to transparency and responsible use of all donated funds. Every contribution helps cover the real costs of providing compassionate photography to those facing terminal illness, bereavement, disability, or hardship.

If you have any questions about Legacy of the Longships or how donations are used, please feel free to reach out to us at: legacylongships@gmail.com
